Reading some recent reviews and posts, it is clear that we often put ourselves at risk of being scammed or robbed if we don't do due diligence by checking for feedback first.

I have learnt over time and a few near misses that it is safer to stick with what you know (venues or addresses or girls) than to risk a new experience just because you are horny or the rates are attractive.

Yes Wolf it's a dangerous world out there.
I have a few things I avoid learnt from experience.
Indian girls and foreign girls. High rate of bad service. Not saying all but statistically I fail with them.
So I don't call them without many very compelling reviews.
I stick to areas such as Umhlanga, Ballito and Durban North as the venues are better from my experience. Anywhere south has given me a mixed result tending to bad.
I always call and talk to the girl to try and gauge her energy and personality. Personality is a big factor for me. I can't be with a girl that doesn't like what she's doing or at least pretend to.
I look very closely at the profiles for red flags. I zoom in and try to even picture the venue. I found that girls that work from the same venue tend to provide similar service.
Partly due to competition. If I saw a specific girl at a venue a few times and then see a new girl there and she knows I'm the other girl's regular.
That's going to be her best performance ever.

My near misses...

Visiting a dodgy block of flats in EL that I had never been to before. Got in the lift and immediately two guys that had been hanging around outside got in too.

One guy was on the phone, and the next moment I got a message from the girl asking where I was. I ignored the message, realising she wanted to confirm to her buddy that I was the mark. Thankfully the lift opened a floor earlier and I walked out. They did the same. As soon as I turned the corner I high tailed it out of there and down the stairs.

So far in Durban I also prefer the north side. I have experienced a couple of dodgy places in Pinetown and Queensburgh so I avoid them. I also have no problem just driving past and forgetting the booking if I don't like the set up.

Number one rule for me is to leave my normal phone at home or work. Just carry the burner, no bank cards and just enough cash for the booking... Specifically when visiting a new girl/place.

Those are good precautions Wolf, but from what we are reading these days, they may just take you even with no cards or phone.

The safest option is to stick with venues and girls that you know. But we all know the story about the pussy and curiosity. :P

For me, an unknown girl at an unknown venue is not happening.
I must either know the girl or the venue.
Reviews help greatly in establishing safety.
